In this second episode of our competition podcast, Thinking Competition, Gonçalo Machado Borges is joined by Kai-Uwe Kühn to discuss recent trends in merger review. Among many other achievements, Kai-Uwe Kühn has a PhD in Economics from Oxford University, was Chief Economist at DG COMP from 2011 to 2013 and is currently Managing Director at the global consultancy Berkeley Research Group. In this talk, we discuss theories of harm, potential competition, how multihoming can refute ecosystem concerns and how tempting it is to use competition regulatory powers to pursue other types of public policies.
