EUROPEAN AND COMPETITION LAW

In this day and age, European Union Law affects deeply and directly the interests of private parties - both companies and individuals- and of the states. The increasing globalisation of social and economic lives requires an analysis of the European and international dimensions of the issues being discussed in the legal community. Due to its peculiar features, European Union Law applies directly and horizontally in national legal orders, in every field of the law, thereby shaping and limiting the application of national legislation.

In this context, the European and Competition Law department of CS Associados is dedicated to provide legal advice in all areas of European Union Law and to assist clients both in administrative procedures before national and European authorities and in judicial proceedings before national and European courts (such as the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights).

In particular, the department is dedicated to advise CS Associados' clients with regard to the application of and compliance with competition rules within all the sectors of the economy - either regulated or not ‑, and to assist clients in procedures involving, inter alia, the control of concentrations, agreements and restrictive practices, abuse of dominant position, State aid and services of general economic interest.

Nonetheless, given the fact that European Union Law extends nowadays to several other aspects of national legal life, the department is prepared to help clients in all matters which may encompass a European or international dimension, thus working in close cooperation with other practice areas in order to ensure a global and comprehensive analysis of the matters at stake.
